ESTATE PLANNING SERVICES

Sean Lohman has built his practice on the philosophy that clients come first. The law firm was founded in the 1970's by Mr. Lohman's father and continues to serve the citizens of our commonwealth in a diverse area of disciplines. Every client at The Lohman Law Offices, PSC deals with an attorney throughout their case rather than a paralegal or case manager because our lawyers have the client's best interests in mind.

Jay Leno

Jay Leno has filed for conservatorship over the estate of his wife Mavis, after she was diagnosed with dementia. The Today Show covers that plus the importance of early estate planning to avoid issues like these.

The topics discussed in this video are some of the topics we cover in our Wine and Wills Event. Be sure to register your spot at our next event!

ESTATE PLAN PRICING

Our Pricing

We price our packages fairly. But everyone’s situation is different so the answer isn’t always simple. Also, we understand that your first thought when beginning the process of building an estate plan would be to shop around for the best price, and that makes sense. However, when you go with the cheapest option, you typically end up with a basic cookie-cutter plan that doesn’t include the finer details of your exact situation. When the time comes to implement these typical plans, they will fail, leaving your loved ones with an unexpected, expensive, unintended mess.

When you schedule an appointment with us, we will begin with your personal family wealth planning session. This is designed to get you more financially organized, by understanding exactly what assets you have and where they are located. This is the foundation for successful estate planning and will tell us where we need to start and how much the estate plan will cost.

Make Sure you’re covered

If something unexpected happens to you, are you certain your loved ones, your money, your home, and everything else you care about is covered financially and legally?

If you don’t have an estate plan in place, that means the state has a plan for you, and it’s probably not what you want. Even if your estate plan is outdated, your assets could go to the state department of unclaimed property. Once they reach this point, it will be a very unnecessary and public court process that your family has to deal with.

If you are unsure what would happen to your loved ones and everything you own in a legal and financial sense, the first step is to find out, so you can decide the outcome of your affairs. Not the state.

“Can’t I Just DIY My Estate Plan?”

We get this question all the time. Unfortunately, most DIY plans do not work because much of what passes for estate “planning” is little more than word processing. You typically answer a few automated questions, and then the drafter (normally just software, not a real human being) decides which “plan” is right for you. These “Plans” are template documents that rarely reflect your desires or personal situation whatsoever.

There is not much estate planning here; this is a “search and replace” of your family’s name and then the hit of the “print” button. These types of services can lead to even more trouble than they are worth for your loved ones. It’s best not to risk it and get it done right.

How the Estate planning process works

We do our best to make the estate planning process as stress-free, fast, and easy as possible, providing step-by-step instructions and meetings which walk you through the entire process. This entire process typically takes 8 weeks from our first planning session to the binder delivery. We break down each step below.

The first meeting will be your initial planning session. Here we will complete your Family Wealth Inventory and Assessment. This will help you get a clear idea about what you own and what you have to think about when it comes to planning for the well-being and care of your loved ones and your belongings.

Next, is our design meeting. The purpose of this session is to educate and inform you about your current state of affairs. If you find these to be unacceptable and we both decide we are a good fit to work together, we will design an estate plan that will best suit the needs of your family.

Typically your estate plan will be built upon a revocable living trust. If this is done correctly and maintained over time, it should help your family avoid the cost and delay of the public probate process and minimize or eliminate estate taxes.

If you are in a situation that requires additional needs, we provide advanced estate planning services for those too.

Once we have designed the perfect estate plan for your exact situation, we have our signing meeting to review and finalize all of the details. When everything has been finalized there will be one more meeting. This is the binder delivery meeting. This is where you will receive your estate planning binder and we have the Life & Legacy interview.
